Mefou National Park is situated around one hour from the centre of Yaounde. It contains 1044 hectares of forest. At present we have eight electrified enclosures housing Chimps, Gorillas, Baboons, and various species of monkeys. Mefou is the perfect setting for visitors to see Cameroon's unique wildlife in a natural environment.

De Brazza monkeys


De Brazza monkeys Live in the river forests of South Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea and Zaire. They can swim hence they are found across Equatorial Africa as rivers have not provided a barrier to their distribution.


where are they found?

They can be found from Cameroon to Uganda and Angola, Kenya, Ethiopia and Sudan. De Brazzas always stay close to rivers, never venturing more than 200m away from the river edge.

De Brazza's monkeys may have a monogamous or polygamous relationship.

They are active during the day and most of their time is spent in the trees.

Groups of de Brazzas can contain upto 35 animals.

De Brazza's monkeys move on all four limbs through the forest. Ground predators are avoided by living in flooded forest and birds evaded by staying low in the thickets of trees.

When hiding, a de Brazza can stay still for up to eight hours.

De Brazzas can live to 22 years old. De Brazzas are very nervous animals, and will hide at the slightest noise.

They are extremely quiet and slow monkeys.
