where are they found?
The Agile Mangabey is found in the countries of Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, and Zaire. This species mostly is found in forests that are seasonally flooded, and will also live in open-canopied gallery forests and in areas near rivers. Groups of Agiles often meet and members can sometimes be exchanged.
what do they eat?
Agiles eat mainly fruit from swamp trees, such as Gabon chocolate, plums, and Dika nuts. If these are not in season, rafia shoots are eaten.
agile facts
Agiles do not like to climb - only the larger adults will ever venture more than 5m above the ground.
Agiles have few predators because of the difficult terrain they inhabit.
The fur parting at the front of the Agiles head can often expose their forehead as a small white or pink patch.
Agiles will stare to try and scare away potential predators, retracting the skin on their forehead.
