introduction
Cwaf can offer a limited number of self-funded volunteer posts to enthusiastic people aged over 21 with a passion for primate conservation and Africa. The maximum placement is three months and the minimum is one month.
Our project, currently based in the suburbs of Yaounde at Mvog-Betsi Zoo and in 1000 hectares of forest at Mefou National Park, cares for over 200 primates.
All our volunteers are based at our forest site where the accommodation is very basic, it is very hot and humid and we expect volunteers to work hard so it's not easy! However, the rewards are fantastic and most of our volunteers have a once in a lifetime experience with the amazing animals in our care.
We must stress that we cannot guarantee that you will get direct contact with the animals. But even if you do not get this opportunity, you will live and work very closely with them so you will still have a memorable time.
How much does it cost to volunteer?
We ask volunteers to raise a donation of £1,250 for a 3 month stay, £1,000 for 2 months and £750 for one month. This money goes straight to the charity to help fund our running costs.
In addition, it will cost you 200,000 Cameroonian Francs (approx €305 per month at current exchange rates) for food and accommodation.
how to apply
Interested applicants should download and complete an
application form and either email it to Caroline McLaney, one of our trustees, at
camclaney@yahoo.co.uk or post it to Caroline at Bristol Zoo Gardens. The next stage is a telephone interview with Paula Searle, our volunteer co-ordinator. Please note that our programme is very popular - we have very few places left for 2008 and we are placing people for 2009 so apply early to avoid disappointment!
